In October 2026, Maruo Calcium will mark the 100th anniversary of its founding.

We are deeply grateful for your warm support and encouragement we have received over the years.

Maruo Calcium was established in October 1926 (Taisho 15) in Akashi, Hyogo Prefecture, a place of scenic beauty celebrated in such classical Japanese works as the “Manyoshu” and “The Tale of Genji”. Our business began with the production of “Hakua,” a calcium carbonate product for the paint industry. Since then, in parallel with the development of the Japanese economy—and the chemical industry in particular—we have steadily expanded our operations and brought a succession of new products to market. Today, our calcium carbonate is used to enhance the performance of a wide range of products that touch many aspects of our daily lives, including rubber, inks, paper, plastics, adhesives, sealants, foods, electronic components, and automotive parts.

Our company positions research and development as the cornerstone of its business. We believe it is essential to pursue both applied research, which addresses the diverse needs of our customers with a strong commitment to quality, and basic research, which explores new possibilities for calcium carbonate. Few things inspire greater excitement than invention and discovery.

At the same time, while ensuring a stable supply and delivering outstanding quality as a matter of course, we are committed to developing new products and establishing production systems that are friendly to both people and the environment.

Today, our products are trusted and used not only throughout Japan but also by customers around the world, including in China, South Korea, Southeast Asia, North America, South America, and the European Union. Looking ahead, we will place even greater emphasis on expanding our presence in overseas markets.

Formed in ancient seas, calcium carbonate is widely distributed around the world in the form of limestone, and it is no exaggeration to say that it has accompanied the development of human society throughout recorded history.

We at Maruo Calcium believe it is our mission to unlock the full potential of this remarkable material—calcium carbonate, with its boundless possibilities—and to continue bringing prosperity and comfort to people and society.
